One of the trim actuator rods on my 2002 BF 225 was damaged in a storm by a piece of steel from the dock I was moored to. I replaced the rod (piston) and O-ring but have been unable to find any information on bleeding the system. I did find two allen -type plugs on the top of the unit, in addition to the fill plug on the oddly shaped reservoir. Can anyone explain why the reservoir has more capacity above the fill plug than below it?

Re: Honda tilt-trim servicing

I think it works like a well tank system which has both water and air in it.

I just install a tilt motor. What I did was jack the motor all the way up. Fill the holes until the fluid drips out, close hole and try to work tilt switch. It took my at least 10 times of working the switch, and refilling and working the switch before it was working. It starts working a bit at a time until the system is bleed.
