I'm trying to find out how to adjust the cables inside a Honda 130 hp Remote Control Box. I had the unit apart to replace a cracked plastic sliding collar and may have inadvertently changed the cable adjustment. Just want to make sure it is correct when I reassemble. Seloc manual does not specify how to do the adjustments.

I may be wrong on this so watch for a correction, but when I did my 1999 90Hp install all of the cable adjustments are done on the motor side. The manual should walk you through how to set or check the setting on the adjustments.

Screw the ends on until they are about an eighth of an inch into the cavity in the clevis. You should be good to go with adjustments on the other end with that provided you are not useing UFLEX cheapo cables.

Re: Honda Remote Control Cable Adjustment

Thanks Radsrh and Hondon (I was away and just got back and saw your replies). I bought a Clymers and they specify all the adjustments at both ends. But I still have a question but first some background. This is on a new 2004 BF130 bought as a boat/motor package (22 ft boat) from a dealer about 200 miles from us. It was very hard to shift especially to reverse with throttle. I thought it might just need a little grease in the control box and then I saw the sliding collar that was cracked. So I replaced it and took it out for a test but it was still hard shifting. Then after reading about how important it is to route the cables I remembered that when I got the boat home from the dealer I had tucked the cables away to make it neater (probably my first mistake). So now I have put the cables back the way they were so that they have more of a direct shot at the motor. Haven't had a chance to get back out and test this setup yet. I checked the adjustments according to Clymers and Hondon and they look good (both throttle and shift). If this still doesn't work than I think it must be the cables (like maybe I stretched them trying to move the shifter). These are the OEM cables so I'm not sure if they are the cheapos Hondon mentioned. Hondon what kind of cables do you recommend? Thanks
Also I probably should have went back to the dealer but it seemed like a simple fix and he is quite a distance away.

BilgeRat:
I have had the same problems- hard shifting! It got worse over time, to the point that it was really unsafe while trying to dock. I tried all the "lubes", and un-restricted some of the bends but I'm now convinced that I need new cables. I'm changing to premium ones with a supposed 5" bend radius. On my 20' Scout, they make 3 90's and a 45 before coming out the sidewall to the motor. Would like to hear about your solutions. Feel free to email me!
