I changed the oil about a week ago and while checking oil level noticed water present. Immediately removed boat to further diagnose. Anyone experiencing similar symptoms please report.

The motor is 1997. The amount of water is minimal but definitly exists.Compression tested 100lbs per cylinder.

Is this Motor on a "Low Draft"(Bass Type) boat? Was it just droplets or actual water in the oil? Was the oil "Milky"? If not, it got in there after it was run! Had the Motor been sitting for some time before you changed the oil? Just trying to get some info so we can figure out a solution.

The Motor is on a 18.5 Hourston.I have used it in excess of 1000 hours. The boat is moored at a Marina. The temperature out here on the West Coast rarely gets below Zero but we get plenty of moisture. The oil was changed recently. The water was noted when checking level shortly after oil change. There was a degree of the milky texture noted. As mentioned above the motor is used often.

The big question here would be ,how is this thing running?Water in your oil ,in small amounts , can happen through ,condensation, water contaminated fuel, mooring in rough water, etc, etc. Those compression numbers are not impressive but I doubt the test was properly performed. These engine really need to have the throttle wide open and a hardy crank to get a valid compression reading.Did that happen?

The Engine is running nicely and in fact is able to troll down. My common practice is to take her for a good run before returning to moorage to ensure clean out. The compression test was not done as suggested.

Re: Honda Outboard 90HP

I think Hondon may have hit the nail on the head.I recall being out in some heavy swells about a week ago. I was out to pull my crab traps and was backing into the waves. I shut the engine down and water did come pretty heavy onto the engine. My plan is to put new oil and filter then take her out for a run. Will follow up upon checking oil for contamination. Thanks for the assistance!
