Re: Honda hides the year?

The reason I was told that most motors don't have a year designation is that sometimes boat builders buy a bulk of engines and don't use all of them in a given production year.Without year designations on the engines the manufacturer can still install the new "year old" engines and not have a dilemma with the customer.

Re: Honda hides the year?

dmurray,<br />Honda uses a Code after the hp rating in the model number to designate the year. <br /><br />Example <br />Model BF40AYLRTA <br /> BF = Honda Mfg<br /> 40 = horsepower<br /> AY = model year 2000<br /> L = 20 inch shaft<br /> R = remote steering<br /> T = Power Trim and Tilt<br /> A = American Market<br /><br />Here is a breakdown of the other codes<br /><br />Model Years: <br /> AX = 1999<br /> AY = 2000<br /> A1 = 2001<br /> A2 = 2002<br /> A3 = 2003<br /> A4 = 2004<br /> A5 = 2005<br /><br />Shaft Lengths<br /> S = Short 15"<br /> L = Long 20"<br /> X = Extra Long 25"<br /> XX = Extra Extra Long 30"<br /> C following = Counter Rotation<br /><br />Steering System<br /> R = Remote Control<br /> H = Tiller Handle<br /><br />Tilt & Trim<br /> T = Tilt & Trim<br /> Blank = Manual Tilt<br /> J = Jet<br /><br />These only apply to the 25hp and larger engines<br />If you want the code breakdown on the 2-20hp, let me know.<br /><br />Hope this helps...<br />Nav

Thanks for the post... I appreciate the response and the break down. I am sure that this break down will help many in the future. This motor runs great for 10 years old.

Nav, The Honda model number breakdown is great info. Yes, I would like to see the code breakdown for 2-20hp engines. I just bought an 8hp Honda 4 cycle, ID # BACS 1001023, and can't find anything about it. <br />Thanks in advance!

Re: Honda hides the year?

Thanks Nav, that's good info. It doesn't help me at this time as mine seems to be older and has a different number format.<br />ZZZZZ, I tried using http://www.boats.net/parts.html <br />but got no return when I entered my hull number. Thank you both!

Re: Honda hides the year?

Thanks for the information but I could use some hlep deciphering year of Mfg on my Honda 50hp 4 stroke (BAZL-1008823). This was purchased in '00 with understanding that it was a '99. I've been told it was made in '95?
