Just purchased a used one of these and the 14 wire control box as well. I want to make sure all electrical systems(not ignition) are working, prior to firing it up. Tilt n trim seems to work, as well as the warning buzzers. I cant seem to get the starter motor to crank. Question is, what interlocks may be causing this? oil?, in gear? what else?. just to prove starter works, is there any danger in bypassing the relay and applying 12 volts directly to starter?

Thanks Guys,

KSAN

Hi again, I simply want to put controls and motor through all electrical activities,( checking starter motor, checking for spark at plugs, etc) prior to placing motor in barrel of water and plugging in gas to see if it starts. Thanks again-Ksan

The main one would be the neutral safety switch, do you have a repair manual? if you do there is a section in the book that will go over how to check and adjust the safety switch. Other then the safety switch the other thing that comes to mind is a battery that is low and will not crank the motor, what is the voltage on the battery?
