I just picked up a 2000 Starcraft boat with a BF90 outboard. The dealer had it out the morning before I picked it up (300 miles away) and they said that it worked fine. When I got it home I went out and I could not get over 2500 rpm. In Forward the throttle will go down to just about 90 degrees, in reverse it will only go about 30 degrees. I took the hood off of the motor and tried see if I could happen to see something wrong, although I do not know much about what I am doing. I did notice that when in neutral the cable was at the end, when in Forward it only get to about half way to appeared to be a stop for the high speed.
I have a picture here and I am wondering if I am correct that the lever (red arrow) should be moved up to the stop (blue arrow) when I am in full throttle?
The dealer had done some carb work on it before I took it, and that was why he had it out just before I got it. I wondered if something could have been bounced loose or something like that. The motor started nicely, ran smoothly, just terribly slow.
