Hi all,
Newbie to the forum, but there seems to be lots to read up on!

I recently bought a Honda BF90 4Stroke for a good price, but I have always used 2stroke engine before this.

So, because I dont know the history of the engine, what are the basic service items I should take note of?

So far im presuming:
Plugs
Oil & Filter
Gear Oil
Petrol Filter

Is the oil filter easy to get at? Does anyone know where I Can get info about this engine (from a service point of view) online as I cant find a manual for it... Somewhere where I could find information such as Engine oil capacity (And type - I presume 10w 40?), and gear oil capacity.

Many thanks in advance,
Niall

Re: Honda BF90 engine service - Tips?

A lot of people are concerned about going from 2 to 4 stroke and added maintenance. Personnaly, I think there is less. Aside from the obvious - like plugs and fuel filter, there is very little. The oil filter couldnt be easier to change and I do it once per year. There is also the timing belt - I forget the interval but you can read a manual from here:

http://www.honda-marine.com/mar_own.aspx

The first thing I sould suggest you do is a search in this forum for others with a 90. I have made several posts regarding not-very-well-known TSBs (technical service bullitens) for this motor - I believe pre-2002 - such as a bad gasket in the lower end and intake manifold mesh replacement. These might not apply to yours however.
