On recently purchased engine I noticed that one of the prop shaft bearing carrier bolts was sheared off, so thought I'd replace it. So, tried to remove the other bolt - despite heat and penetrant, I sheared that one as well. Then tried to remove the carrier - again heat and penetrating oil. It moved a bit, maybe 1/16 inch. It has now broken - have removed the whole of the rear section, in bits, but still cant get it out. According to the parts diagram, it's only now being held by an O ring ! Or am I missing something and being very stupid ?
Any help advice VERY gratefully received - thanks in advance, Chris Turner

Done it ! - heat, penetrating oil, tap tap tap, curse, heave etc etc. Eventually it started to move a bit and finally came out. I can't see what was holding it - no visible corrosion. Is it carbon from the exhaust ? How do I prevent this getting so tight when I replace it ? Marine grease or copper based anti-sieze. Opinions please.

Hi,
The carrier getting caught is a commom phenomenon.
You needed a sliding hammer to remove it, anyhow since you have removed it i would recommend you to replace all gasket and seals of the lower unit and before replacing the seals and oring scrape all the accumilated salt and calcium deposits so that it would be easier for you to remove next time. Honda Marine grease would be sufficient but for bolts you may use antisieze grease.
