Honda BF8A Shifting Issue

My Honda 8hp BF8A has a shifting issue i am trying to diagnose and need someones' assistance.

The motor starts beautiful. Normally 1 pull.
When I put it in gear, it cuts off.
Doesn't matter whether from neutral to reverse or neutral to forwared.
Sometimes it will engage.

I have recently had it serviced and had a new carb put on it from a Honda Autorized Service Center.
They also conducted a sucessful compression check and adjusted the valves.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like a stalling issue, rather than shifting, unless the transmission is jammed, of course.

I would go back to the servicer and ask them to sort it out, if it was recently enough.
