Honda BF8A intermittent bad idle [1998]

This motor has always had a bad idle. It will idle for quite a while and then will start loading up like it is getting too much gas and then will usually clear itself. This is also noticible when the boat tilts when everyone is on one side. We tilted the motor out one notch and the problem really got bad. I am thinking float level but not sure. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.....Jim

Sounds like either the float is sticking or the float valve needle is either worn or is gummed up.<br />Pull the carb, then the float bowl and chekc the needle. MAke sure it has a perfectly smooth taper all the way to the point. Clean it with acetone or other solvent to make sure there are no deposits on it. Also clean the float hinge while you're at it.<br /><br />Hopefully that will solve you problem.<br /><br />Nav :cool:
