am definetly a nuB ,,, :rolleyes: <br /><br />investigating purchasing a used outboard motor Model BF75L which has some "issues"<br /><br />1.) what year is this motor<br /><br />2.) quick compression test was (cold as mice/mouse have chewed through fuel line,,,coupla wires,,hint hint)<br /> top cylinder 60 lb<br /> bottom 55/60<br />which seemed "low" so 'we' added 1/2-3/4 teaspoon 30wt oil to each cylinder & got<br /> top cylinder 85/90 lb<br /> bottom 60 lb<br /><br />3.) should 'we' buy Honda book & go to work or look for a more better "used outboard". to be used for 13' SeaMist rowboat fishing ponds with grandkid's!!<br /><br />thx<br />IGWT*

when you checked comp, did you do it at wide open throttle, gotta let air into the engine as it take four strokes also leakdown on four strokes is the best way to determine integral soundness, if you dont know how to do this just let us know, we'll help as best we can<br />good luck

I would suggest a leakdown test for a better picture of what you have, as suggested by marinegrh. The 7.5 is a good little motor and should give you a great skiff, if it is still healthy. Get a leak down and hear it run before you buy it.
