Several years ago impeller and lower shaft were replaced.
This motor is used to power a 4000lb disp 26 foot sailboat. Prior to the above work the motor stayed in reverse. Since that time when throttle is applied the motor will pop from reverse to neutral. When applying any amount of throttle above an idle I must hold the gear lever in Revrse position or it will pop into neutral.. Does not ever happen when in FWD position.
I have had service teck look into this and they reported not being able to reproduce problem - but they are running in a tank and not on a boat.
This past weekend when winterizing I turned the cap on the transmission rod (what do we call the rod that attaches to the gear shift lever?) one full turn (I believe counter clockwise). The idea is this will lengthen the rod by that amount.
Any ideas if this is the source of the problem or the cure?
Is there a reason why this does not occur in a tank or are the service techs just not trying hard enough?
Regards
Mike
