Not sure of the year - Engine ran fine when last used last summer. This spring I replaced the plugs and got a fresh supply of gas. The engine runs great at the middle RPM's but will not run at high RPM's or at an idle. Have torn into the carb a dozen times blowing through the jets and checking the float. I've exhausted all my idea's.

Have you tried a different fuel tank?Will it make a differance if you squeeze the primer bulb when this thing is acting up?What are your compression numbers and how did you acheive them?When is the last time those valves were adjusted?That ought to get you started.
