Honda Bf50l Can You Tell Me Its Hp And Year Please

a Honda outboard with BF50L & 1003187 stamped on the transom plate & BF50 1006969 stamped on the block, any idea what year & hp this motor is?

I think its a 5hp made around 1995 would this be correct, where can I find out how to get the age of honda outboards also please thanks

Some outboard year models are encoded in the serial no. unfortunately honda are not and serial no.s are hard to find although I thought normally bf50 would be a 50 hp but that can't be right if you say you think its a 5hp, Anyways have you tried ringing honda marine tech support or most honda dealers should know, just depends how patient they are.

thanks for the info. it cant be a 50 as its smaller than my honda 8hp aux,

im thought it was slightly newer but guees that sounds about right, any one know of decent workshop websites

Mine is an '84, 5 hp BF50L SN: 1002295

If that link doesn't work use the search from the home page (http://www.boats.net), search by link, choose Honda, then choose 0 for year to indicate pre-1997. All available outboards come up. Use your browser "Find" function to search for BF50L on the page. I just purchased a carburetor for $134.
