Honda BF50 Water in Engine Oil

I'd appreciate any Honda-specific advice here...I'm definitely getting water (not gas) in my engine oil - about 4 ounces yesterday after running for an hour or so, following an oil change (I noticed the problem prior to the oil change). I plan to do a compression check, but have heard that a corroded exhaust system can also cause water to get in through the exhaust valves. My engine is spitting water out of the highest exhaust port, well above the water line.

Thanks for any recommendations on what order I should proceed in to diagnose this - are there any common problem areas with Honda that might be causing this?

I am not a professional mechanic, but here's what I'd do:

1) check for blown head gasket with a compression & leakdown tester(Harbor Freight Tools sells cheap testers for both).

2) Check entire exhaust system.

3) Possible lower main seal blown. The parts themselves are cheap. You will need to remove the powerhead for access.

4) If the problem still exists, time to give up & get dealer service.

Hope this helps.

Fixed - I replaced the head gasket (no signs that the head or block were cracked or warped), thermostat (which was stuck partially open), oil pan gasket and exhaust tube gasket.

I have water in my oil also, is the head gasket is pretty easy to replace?

Are the other items easy also? Did you repair in the water or on land? Approx how many hours did it take?

I do most of my own repairs on my cars, but I'm new to boat motors. I will have a helper who is a small engine guy (4 wheelers, sea-doos), but also new to outboard motors.
