For less than $1300 you can get a new Tohatsu. Not a Honda but for that money you can buy new if you need a big repair.

Mabe a little heat at the upper spline and an adapter for a slide hammer to remove the shaft.-----Pressure test the gearcase and look for leaks there.

Now that my motor is all apart and the shaft is stuck to the crank my recommendation is leave it alone .. just check the oil every so often. fantastic engine!!
As was recommended you can't put a wrench or pulley to the shaft it is not solid steel...that is the part of the problem and Honda made a big mistake on this one... and I did try heat...loads of liquid wrench dissimilar metals involved here.

Can you tell if it is engine oil or gearcase oil? I'd suspect the latter. Have you removed the lower leg and checked to see if any of the shaft seals in there are bad? If so, I'd think that is a much easier/less costly repair than anything in the crankcase.

hello

do you solve ou pb of oil leak ? i have also the same problem : oil leaking from weep holes .
i think its motor oil because of the colour of oil (yellow), my gearcase oil is blue. actually i just check the oil every so often.
i try to put 10w40 in place of 10W30 but no stop leak.

i think i must change the 2 lip seal, on the shaft but you must remove powerhead, is it complicated?
i have the workshop manual for the bf5 it seem not to much complicated to remove power head ?
but in real maybe different?

thanks
