Hi,

I have a pair of 9 year old BF45A outboards. When the boat is out of the water and I flush them with the muffs, I notice different flow rates in the outlet cooling water.

On the starboard engine, the flow from the telltale is very strong, but the flow out through the hub exhaust is only medium and varies.

On the port engine, the flow from the telltale is only medium, but there's a strong constant flow out through the hub exhaust.

After a 10 minute warm up period, the water from the starboard side feels warmer than the port, but neither are uncomfortable to touch with my hand.

Both engines are running well, and have had new impellers and new thermostats fitted about 6 months ago. Neither is giving overheat warning, even after long high-speed running. Also, I keep the water intake under the cavitation plate covered during flushing.

I'm just wondering if the different flow rate is a warning of trouble ahead.

Thanks.

Probably not.More likely we have an obstruction at the telltale .Best way to tell if we have a problem is to compare temps at the tstat housing. You have done that to an extent and it sounds like you are good to go if not running a little cold. That stack always gets pretty warm and tstat values have changed over the years for this engine, especially in cold water conditions.
