leak1.jpgIMAG1204.jpgHello,

I was getting my boat ready for the water and just noticed the power lift/tilt is malfuctioning.

The motor turns but won't lift the motor up all the way. I removed the power tilt unit and checked it out. It looks like there is a bubbling leak on the right side of the unit at the rim of this huge flat screw head located next to a smaller one.

I don't have a flat screwdriver that big, but I was hoping I could fix the leak by tighting this huge screwhead.

I'm also not sure how to add fluid to the unit if it did stop the leak. It looks like a small allen head plug on the front is the fill point. ( I just ordered shop manual)

I want to get my boat in soon, and I could even convert to a gas assisted lift piston, but I can't find on online.

I'd like to avoid the $1200 cost of the whole tilt/trim unit. ( what no core discount?)

Please Help!

thanks
ds

Re: Honda BF40 power tilt trim leaking

Dealer wanted $1500 plus $600 labor. Yikes.

Update for other Honda info seekers.

Found part number and got a new unit for $940...these other random Honda Power dealers have better prices than marine dealers.

Honda 56000-ZW4-H15 Trim-tilt, power

Pretty damn easy to install even on the boat. Stupid design...unit is 1/2 submerged all the time.
Mount your honda bf40/50 as high as possible if you keep it in the water all season.
