Looking for a BF5 long shaft, and dealer says he has a BF4 longshaft.

I don't see a 4 hp in current Honda line, so I guess was discontinued.

Is there a restrictor plate that was installed to reduce the horsepower...that can be removed?

Thanks!

Honda manufactures BF 4-5-6 outboards. If all 3 models shares the same CC powerhead and plan upgrading a 4 to a 5 HP the HP restriction could be due to : wider air restrictor, different carb model, next HP ECU ? It's not as simple as to remove the air restrictor and upgrade to next model gratis...

I did not know Honda had a 6HP! I've only seen the 5HP. If I strike it rich, I'll swap out my Tohatsu 6HP for a Honda!

If both 6 HP brands are 4 stroke motors which advantage would a Honda have compared to a Tohatsu ?

The Tohatsu vibrates a LOT above idle speed. I use it on an aluminum boat and it makes the whole boat rattle, and the fishing poles vibrate across the seats. At anything above idle you have to yell to communicate over the noise of the boat vibrating. It's probably less of an issue if you're in a heavy fiberglass boat. The Honda is mounted in soft rubber supports that significantly isolate the vibrations from the boat. This video shows it clearly. The Tohatsu does not have this feature. On the plus side, the Tohatsu has been a great motor in every other respect; it will idle all day, has been reliable and uses a tiny amount of gas.

Yep there you have it as suggested, will add once both clamp's eyes are facing each other pass a rope as seen to cancel noisy clamps vibrations along staying with the Tohatsu...

Such a thing is non existing it's one of my cracy occurrences. Has 2 main applications: Cancels the clamps vibration, disables the motor not to fall into the deep blue as everybody just screws tight the clamps onto the motor plate, but while boating the clamps may and will come loose to find out that your beloved unattended motor is missing...

Only use one side pad as seen, the material used it's a 1.2 mm PVC piece cut, shaped and glued inside the motor plate just for a neat visual cosmetic issue. Can use 2 round pieces of flexible plastic, tire tube whatever, glued under each round clamp. If can manage to achieve for both eyes to face at each other can lock both with a standard lock instead of the rope to deter fast passer-bye motor thieves that always abound. LOL!!

Interesting approach, I'm afraid anything soft enough to absorb vibrations on both sides would also make the motor more likely to come off, but I suppose it's worth a try next time I've got some extra free time. Also I always have a chain connecting the motor to the boat, so if it comes unclamped it cannot go more than a few inches. I think the chain is short enough that the bracket can't even clear the transom with it connected.

Will need to place a flexible firm pad not that soft though just at the front side, the rear swivel bracket will rest firm against the outer transom plate once both clamps are screwed tight. Try it next time...
