I have resently picked up a Honda BF30A 4 Stroke. The owner told me that it hasn't been running in about a year. I took the 3 carbs off and cleaned them. #3 carb was full of sludge. I got the engine to start but it's not running good. It runs on 1/2 choke and 1/2 throttle. I have checked spark on all wires and plugs (good). While running, I can pull wires 2 and 3 and nothing sounds or runs different, if I pull wire 1, the engine will stall. This tells me that the motor is running on 1 cylinder. Any suggestions. The motor is a 2002 and is obvious that it has never been apart. I looks like it just came off the show room floor. Please let me know if anyone can help.

I had the exact same problem with the same motor. It had been on a life boat on a larger vessel and sat a long time before I got it.

I cleaned the carbs thoroughly and it ran perfectly.

Not until each and every tiny detail had been cleaned, did it run good.

Re: Honda BF30A 4 Stroke

I have thourghly cleaned all 3 carbs. Completed disassembled, soaked, sprayed, dried, and re-assembled. Now I have 2 out of 3 carbs working but #3 cylinder still not firing. I have rechecked spark at wires and plugs. I have even swaped #2 coil and wire with #3. #3 still not firing. I believe it's still in the carb. Any suggestions?

Go over the carbs one more time, there are alot of small passages and one tiny speck of dirt can cause big problems.
