I have been given a honda BF2A outboard, I have given her a clean up and freed off the seized throttle linkage on the carb. Whilst checking the oil I noticed the sight glass was empty. I checked this with the engine in the up right position.
I have added nearly 2 litres of oil which is obviously far to much, but the sight glass has remained empty and dry ?
I have leaned the engine at different angles to try and help the oil to the sight glass but nothing.
Has anybody had this fault before ? or could anybody advise me what to do ?
I have drained off some of the oil and started the engine briefly and it ran great, but I am worried about using the engine encase there is some kind of oil restriction.
Many thanks ... ... Nick

This enigne requires only a pint of oil.Is it possible that you were overfull at the start and that is why you noticed no change in the sight glass?

No, the sight glass is dry, there is no oil behind it.
It's a good engine, I don't know what to do with it, maybe just put the correct amount of oil in and turn a blind eye to the dry sight glass.

I've had some of those that were really slow filling the site gauge. I would drain all the oil out, refill it to spec and then run the engine. After it cools back down I think that you will find that the gauge will have loaded.
