I have a Have a Honda BF25 4-stroke for 2 years and I've had no troubles with it so far. Though when I have 5 persons in the boat with diving equipment I need a bit more power. I've looked at the specifications for the BF25 and the BF30 and they are exactly the same... Except for max rpm 5500rpm for BF25 and 6000rpm for BF30. So, is it possible to get the BF25 into 30hp by just tunning max rpm? cause that extra 5hp would be enough for all my needs.

Your really pushing a load for any 25hp.And I think the 4 stroke will struggle even more.If you go with less pitch on the prop it will surely help. You should get a tach so you are sure not to exceed max rpm.Especially with a light load.
Changing the 25 to a 30hp Is probably a waste of time for your purpose and may be pricey.

I agree with spike. 30 HP is not much for 5 people. I have the BF30 and 3 people is enough to make me swap from a 12 pitch to a 10. I have a 15 foot boat that is on the heavy side at 600 lbs. Also he is correct that you need to watch RPMs with a lower pitch with light load.

I swap my props quite often. 12 is perfect for just me, but I drop to a 10 if I have more than 500 lbs in the boat. with a 10 pitch, I can get on plane with around 1400 lbs (600 for the boat and 800 in the boat). That is pushing it to the max and I don't do it often.

I looked up the parts difference. The carb bank is different as is the CDI.
Carb bank for BF30 is $613.34 retail and CDI is $284.97. I suggest trading in the BF25 and use the almost $1000 (with labor) towards BF40 or BF50.

I have the 30. I also have wondered about the difference with the detuned? 25. Don't know yet.

dont reinvent the wheel. it could be an expensive waste of time tuning your 25 up. prop down or power up. depending on your boat and load conditions. maybe trading up to a 40 is the answer.
