Hi everybody,

I'm new here and this forum seems to be pretty good from the posts that I've been reading. I saw that a couple of you have had problems shifting your Honda outboards. My 2004 Honda BF200 shifts pretty hard into and out of gear. The throttle cable was gouged when the dealer installed it, but I'm not sure if it the cause or not. When shifting from forward or reverse to neutral with the motor running its pretty hard to do. If I turn the motor off before going into neutral it shift easy and smooth. If it was the cable I would think it would shift the same with the engine on or off. Buy the way this motor is on a Odessey Tritoon with a Honda top mount shifter. This shifter doesn't have a gear select lockout to prevent it from switching into reverse when switching from forward to neutral. (very Bad!)
If you other guys with this problem got it solved let me know what you found out.
Thanks

Re: Honda BF200 HardShifting

That cable could very concievably be causing your trouble,as well as poorly adjusted cables, cables that make many,or afew radical, bends, the list go'es on .The point is ,hard shifting with these units is almost always related to rigging, cable routing,or improper cable adjustment. What kind of a run do'es that boatbuilder have us making? That Morse binacle can be a little tricky. You should check back with that dealer and make sure you're all good at the helm end.
