Honda BF150 sound changes

I have a new BF150 on my new bay boat. (18 hours) It runs great and purrs like a kitten usually. However, on particularly rough bay water, if I happen to hit a really big wave and come down hard, the motor's sound changes significantly. It sounds totally different, a little more hoarse or rough I guess is how to describe it. The rpm's or my speed don't seem to change. Just the sound. Can anyone tell me what might be happening there? Thanks.

Shifted a cover? What kind of cover? What I left out of my first post was that when it does this, it lasts about 30 to 45 seconds, then the sound goes back to normal.
