Hi - just joined.

I bought a Honda 10 horsepower used - ran fine for awhile. Then increasing problems getting it to start. Put new plug on end of wire, held against head bolt and pulled cord - no spark.

Problem #1 - not sure what model it is. The ID plate has been painted over several times and when I scraped it off I couldn't find any markings at all. The motor looks just like photos I have seen of old BF100's - except no CDI. It does have a set of breaker points and condensor under the rubber cover on the cam pulley. How can I confirm the model / year?

If the coil is the problem, will a coil for a CDI equipped motor work? I'm having trouble finding a replacement. Or is there a way to covert mine to CDI - or what??????

TIA

Would think the coil from a CDI model may be higher rating. It should still work.......I think. Check out your condensor at the points before buying a coil.
