Hi all. I joined this forum because I saw a lot of insightful comments and advice. And I really need that right now!
I was given a 1982 BF100 which had been used as a mouse nest. It didn't run. I cleaned out all the residual food and nesting material and found they had gnawed through two 12V lines which fed the CDI. So, what I did was:
- repair the wires
- replace the spark plugs
- change engine and transmission oil
- check everything for leaks, chewed hoses, chewed electrics, nesting material where it shouldn't be etc etc
The engine started and would run with the throttle on START or a little less, but on idle it would stall.
OK - remove carb and clean everything. Idle jet doesn't seem to come out, so used acetone (just on idle jet, keeping away from float and float needle), WD40 and a carb cleaner with aerosol. Carb cleaner sprays out from all the right places so it seems it is clean.
Now the motor starts and runs and I can push the choke fully home. But I have had to adjust the throttle closure on Shift to fairly open so it "idles" quite fast. I have tried adjusting the pilot screw but what happens is that the engine will "idle" at fast speed for ~20s then tries to stall. I blip the throttle and it comes back to life then, without touching the throttle, it will increase in revs for several seconds then the revs reduce and it tries to stall again. It starts again every time with a bit of choke, which I can push in immediately.
I realised today that I was running it on 89 octane when it asks for 91. Other than that, I have no idea what else to do.
HELP!
Thanks in advance.
