we have 2005 225hp that was losing power and stalling when bring back the throttle. when checking the problem the engine began smoking exessivly when starting (white smoke). checked the oil and the sump was full with fuel diluttion. the oil was changed a week prior. changed oil and did a commpression check as per shop man. 5 cyl were around 150 and #2 cyl was 100. man says 198-224. ran engine again and fuel was found in the sump again. is the fuel possibly from a o ring on the fuel pump? and if so can this cause the low commpression?

If you find that your compression is questionable, the next step is a leakdown test to try to determine the source of the leak or if you even have one.Fuel dilution can come from alot of different places. You guys pack some hours on these units so a low pressure fuel pump diaphram is not out of the realm of possibilities, but ,if failed, would ussually show performance symptoms.Do the leakdown and that might answer all your questions.

100psi in #2 is bad bad. And the other cylinders are are just bad. Do the leak down test. This test will point you in the direction you want to look once you pull the heads off. e.g. poor valve seating, scored cylinder wall...etc. Does the spark plug on #2 look bright and shinny? If yes the injector maybe stuck open causing excess fuel to dump into cylinder causing it to "wash out". And like justintime mentioned Thermostats that are stuck open also can cause gas in the oil,big time. Bummer of a deal dude, good luck.

thanks for the replies! the thermostats were my first check. they were in good shape. def not the prop the port engine has the same and its a standard country wide for those boats. i replaced all the o rings on the fuel system just to do it and still end up with the same results. i replaced the engine today with a new one and will continue the fun of troubleshooting on the bench! thanks again guys

Boy, isn't it nice to be able to just go get a new one and install it. That's truly a benefit from UNCLE SAM.
Keep us posted on what you find. How many hours was on the engine?

I would have run a shock treatment of Ring-free through the motor before I replaced it. I would have also install new thermostats, regardless of the old thermos appearance or test results. Since you are USCG12, I assume this is on a Safeboat? You should contact Mark Cooper at Global Maritech before you rip into this motor.
