Hi,

I recently upgraded from a Honda BF9.9 to a Honda BF20 on my Lund WC 14. I haven't had a chance to use it yet. I also upgraded from a 3 gallon fuel tank to a 6 gallon tank. I felt the 3 gallon size was somewhat restrictive. Anyway, I would like to locate the fuel tank just in front of the middle seat to improve weight distribution. This would put it about 7 ft. from the motor. The hose would be run along the floor of the boat, not up and over the seat. The owner's manual says the tank should be within 6 ft of the motor. Its hard for me to believe that 1 more foot would make a difference, but I'm no outborad mechanic. Anyone tried this or have an opinion on it? Thanks.

Peter,
Dont worry about it. 1 ft isn't going to have any impact. You're adding horizontal length to the hose, not vertical. You're engine wont know the difference. And if you want to get pseudo-technical, by moving the can towards the front, the gas will be flowing "down" towards the engine due to bow rise. The downward angle will offset the fuel line diameter restriction.... :D :D :D

Nav

Navigator,

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like it won't be a problem.

Peter,
Have you had a chance to use the new motor yet? I'm looking at purchasing one for a similar size/type boat and would be interested in your impressions so far

I located my tank in the bow of my 16+ long boat (about 18 feet of hose), no problem. BF40.

210 express,

I used it for about 3 hours for the first time this past friday. Did not have any problems with putting the fuel tank further to the front. I couldn't open it up all the way due to the break in but I goosed it up to about 75% throttle a few times and there was a major difference, between this and my old 9.9 honda. My first impression is that is was well worth the upgrade. The only trade off was I couldn't troll quite as slow with it as my 9.9, but I bought an electric trolling motor for that, so I should be fine. As an added bonus, caught a nice brown trout and rainbow trout too :D
