I just bought a used 2001 honda 15hp electric start tiller control outboard. It starts and runs perfectly, but I can't figure out how to slow it down past the start position on the tiller throttle. Therefore it idles really fast and it really slams into gear. It seems like I am just doing something wrong, but i guess it could be a throttle cable problem or something. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Kent

Take the cover off ,put the engine in gear,if this feels difficult move the prop a little but do'nt force things, and then watch what you have going on with your carb, choke, throttle cable, linkage. You will notice there is a screw that stops the return of that black throttle pivot. Is that pivot resting against that screw?

Re: honda B15 s tiller

Hondon,
yes the throttle pivot is resting against the screw on my honda b15a. I adjusted the screw and it still wont slow down past the start position. The throttle cable seems intact.

On the tiller there is a little symbol of a circle with a square cap on the top and an arrow pointing down towards the slow position. It looks something like this:
0]
<--
Do you know what this indicates? I noticed this same symbol by the kill switch without the arrow pointing down.

Which screw and pivot are you looking at.The idle speed adjustment screw on this engine can be backed off far enough that the engine will not even run.Take another look.
