I have a honda b100 or I guess a 9.9 the year I would have to guess is about 1983...I bought it used. The motor has sat for about a year without being used, it ran great the last time I used it. The problem is that I cannot get it to idle it starts great and runs good at high speeds but as soon as I run try to get it to run slower it stalls...if I play with the choke I can bring it down somewhat...but thats no good.
I have gotten new plugs and gas but this does not help. I also tried adjusting the carb pin (don't know the exact term)how many turns should it be ajusted? thanks for the help Tim

Hello,
I would get a bottle of Sea Foam and run it through your system, it's tune up in a can. I added heavy the first few tanks of gas. I have a b100 also. The jet you are talking about, I was told to adjust it by raising the idle up then adjust it all the way down until it starts to die then back it off 1/2 turn. If it balks when you open it open a bit more. I would also remove that needle valve and clean it well and carefully, it can get gunky.

lee

Did the Sea Foam help? I have exactly the same problem. The motor is a little newer but it's basically a Honda 9.9. It will start on high choke but when I start pushing the choke back in it gets to a point where it slows down and just stalls. Even when it's overrevving slightly and I put it in gear it can stall. Maybe it's my imagination but it seems better when it warms up. I've adjusted the idle and the mixture but not using the method that Lee recommends. I think it's out about 3/4 to 1 turn right now.

could not find sea foam....must be some other way to clear up this problem without running a couple of tanks of gas...do you know how long this would take with the 4 stroke. might try to clean out the carb myself???

Sta-bil will work also, although I have never used it. Try and get your hands of some stuff called Deep Creep, it's made by the same people who make Sea Foam. . Clean the needle valve, and then re set it.

lee

I couldn't find SeaFoam either. It may not be a common import in to Canada. I found Evinrude carb cleaner but that's a spray not a fuel additive. Is the needle valve that is being referred to the one on the side of the carb - the only adjustable screw on that side of the carb? I can try that and clean it. If that doesn't work I've had the carb apart before - it wasn't that tough a job. Maybe I'll just do it again but it would have been nice just to clear the problem up with something in the gas.

I took the carb apart, cleaned it as best as I could. The float is free and the fuel filter is clean still have the same problem no low idle speed just stalls, high end works great starts good to...I heard that acidtone may work if the carb is all apart..soak it overnight in the acidtone. The neddle screw I heard that it should be about 1.5 turns out.
Tim

Take the needle seat out again and blow some carb cleaner and air through it, also there is a port on the top of the carb you can squirt carb cleaner into and it will get into the carb to make sure it is clean. Check your gas line for leaks, mine developed a leak at the tank/motor connection. After several time to seal it I took it out and hooked it up direct. If you have it apart spray the hell out of the needle valve actived by the float. Go here to de-carb http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=36;t=000006

lee

Re: honda b100 1983+/- won't idle

I went to the honda dealer and the gave (I bought) me some Honda carb spray..they advised me to take the carb apart, take the float off and soak the carb and parts in the stuff overnight. The reason to take the float off is that is made out of plastic and it might get dammaged..also DO NOT USE YOUR WIFES PLASIC BOWLS. I will try this on the weekend and will advise how things went.
Tim

stuff worked great..only I did not soak overnight just for about 3 hours..put the carb back together and it fired up on the first pull.
It idles great now. had to adjust the high idle pin to do this I opened it up about 3 full turns then slowly closed it down when the motor seems to want to die then backed it up about a half a turn..runs like new :)
Tim
