Hi all, I'll start from the beginning so it's easier to getb the picture;

I took my Haines out on a sea trial as I have sold it however I let the purchaser drive the boat back to shore,

when we were close to shore I told him to tilt the motor and turn it off so we drifted onto the shore, I put the boat on

the trailer and went to drop the motor down onto the support arms and the motor wouldn't come back down, it was jammed.

So I waited until I got back home and several short goes didn't make any difference, eventually I held the tilt down switch for

longer than normal [ 5 to 6 seconds ] and away it went, up and down like normal, so I figured that he must have held it in the up

position for too long and over extended it [ jammed it ] .

So after a few more goes to make sure it was okay, I over extended it myself and held the switch on for longer than normal and after
a delay down it would go again, this has not happened to me previously so is it a case of the new owner causing the issue or do I have an issue??

Also I went to run my motor to flush it out and my main battery was dead as far as starting the motor went? It is only a couple of months old and

the little sight glass was red' which means 'contact your battery dealer' so could the tilt trim issue of trying to free it up a bit dropped enough charge out of the battery to affect the starting capabilities? [ note battery is only kept trickle charged via a tiny solar panel 200mm x 150mm.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance for any replies ;))

Being low on fluid effects the down just as much or more then going up, so top off your fluid. Honda recommends ATF.

Also make sure your battery meets Honda specs, for that motor at least 715MCA but i usually put 1000MCA batteries on them.

Holding the trim button for a few extra seconds will definitely not kill a battery unless it was already low. Might want to check the engines charging system to make sure its charging the battery back.
