I'm not sure where to post this. I'm thinking of buying a new used engine. My 17 foot boat presently has a 50 horse on it and im thinking of upgrading to a 90 horse Honda that a friend's selling. In my experience has been Honda has an impeccable produced. What im asking is my boats capacity plate says maximum motor size of an 85 horse, Is 5 horse power that big of a difference that i have to worry about it much. My gess it wont over an 85 horse.
My boat is an 1989 1700 Spectrum with an 50 force on it. Not shure on the Hondas year. Thanks for your input.

Five HP isn't as big an issue as the 90HP Honda four stroke wieghs considerably more then a 2 stroke 85hp of that 1989 era.

Re: Honda 90

Thanks for the reply. I didn't take the weight factor in to account. I think i need to do more research becouse that's on thing i like about my boat"its light".The main reason for the larger power was to out run storms if i have to on the ocean. Other than that the 50 works well for what i need. Thank again.
