my brother & i installed a perko switch on his honda 90 outboard motor mounted on a 17.5 lowe deep v alum boat i believe it is a 2007 model and did not get the info off the motor yesterday but my question may be obvious enough for an accurate answer as we were preparing to wiring it up the positive for the trolling motor at the fuse made contact with the aluminum hull before it was able to be disconnected and on the outboard lower unit a wire that goes from the lower unit to the handlebar caught fire and burned in half. We made sure to disconnect the trolling motor positive wire and jumped out to address the fire issue but it had already gone out and burnt the coating off the wire and burned the wire in half we now are trying to determine what this wire was is it a fusible link installed for this reason or is it a wire that serves another purpose and if so what purpose does it serve ? We have not and will not reinstate power to the system until we replace the wire and have already addressed the trolling motor wiring issue but we cannot locate any info on what this wire is or what the part name is so any info in what it is called and also if we need to look elsewhere for additional damage would be appreciated
