greetings,

i have less than 16 hrs on my new - 2015 - honda 9.9 manual outboard. i would like to charge my deep cycle marine battery via the plug that is available on the side of the engine... where can i get a female plug and cord that will snap into this male electrical fitting? also how long is the cord. does honda make a charging cord for this model and should i have gotten it when i purchase the motor new this summer?

thanks for any enlightenment on this electrical question.

Does the power outlet have a rubber cap on it?

If so (and as seen above), the unwired male plug assembly may already down inside the rubber housing/cover. Just have to pop the rubber housing/cover off and look down inside. If you see the two male spades sticking up, pull/dig the male assembly out of the housing. The male spade assembly will have two wire set screws where you can wired it to your own cord. You'll have to drill/cut out a perforated hole/s in the rubber to run the wires out once assembled. Plug it in, wire to your battery and off ya go. If not (assume below's), Honda will $ell ya what ya need, I'm sure

However..............

The 6/10/12 Amp output on these kicker motors isn't necessarily intended/designed to "re/charge" per-se deeply discharged batteries BUT are more intended to keep a starting/deep cycle batteries topped off more than anything. At 6/10/12 Amps it can take many hours to fully recharge a drawn down/low batt (which can be done, I troll for hours sometimes and it'll do it, just be advised, it isn't going to be like a car or a bigger O/B, I/O motor)

Given that, you can run like a few deck/nav. lights (advise LED) and smaller accessories (fish finder, VHF, electric downrigger [intermittent use obviously] etc) without draining it as the 6/10/12 amp output will make up the difference (or put back small deficits here and there) and keep it from draining while using these smaller loads...........GL

The charging system is standard the cord is optional.and does not come with the motor. You have a D series motor so you would need the later one pictured above.

As mentioned above the charging system is designed to maintain a battery, not to charge one.
