I have a 1999 8hp XLS mounted as a kicker. Bought it with supposedly less than 50 hours on it, definitely looked like it. I have had it 3 years with less than 200 hours on it myself. Yesterday it started smoking and running funny, revved it a bit, rank okay (trolling at slowest speed). Started up later again. Checked crankcase dip stick, totally creamy colored oil. The plug size is a bit funny, I can't do a compression test but it was running okay when I revved it up and my "finger over the spark plug hole" test shows a fair amount of compression.

I did a search and couldn't find much to point anything on this style of motor. It has the aluminum oil filler neck, not the plastic type that can warp. I can say with good confidence that the motor rides very high out of the water. The water flow seems okay but it could be a bit weak. I have to admit that I haven't changed the impeller. I say this as I understand that could have led to this filler tube warping, is that correct?

Thanks,

It sound like you over heated the motor do you have a water stream out and is it warm? if you are lucky it is your head gasket if you are not it is a crack in the block good luck
