Honda 8 backfiring thru carb under load

I have a Honda 8HP, 1999, that backfires thru the carb when under load. After backfiring a few times it stalls. It had been an intermitent problem that has become more much more prevalent recently. It runs well in neutral.<br /><br />A mechanic has checked the carb, fuel and filters and all checks out OK.<br /><br />Thanks for the help!

When is the last time those valves were adjusted?Doing so now will verify that the valves are not only adjusted correctly, but the timing belt has not run afoul.What are your compression and leakdown numbers ? How did that mechanic[check?] that carb.There are no checks that I am aware of .Will it run any differently with the engine cover off?Bugs ,for some reason ,love to crawl up the breather tubes on these engines and build themselves a home. That can cause your symptoms.
