Hey there - looking for some words of wisdom. I currently own a 1700 Crestliner boat that has a 75 hp Honda on the back end. Very happy with it, but looking for more oomph for pulling kids, etc.

So, I managed to find a used Honda 115. Bought it and got it shipped to Montana, etc. Well I now see (yeah I know, shoulda asked first) that it is shorter than my current motor. Measuring the transom on my Crestliner, it is indeed 25", so according to the specs, it does require an XL shaft motor.

I've got some options - what do you think about these:

1. Investigate changing out the necessary parts to convert the 115 from L to XL.
2. Mount a jackplate to allow me lower the motor
3. Just re-sell the 115 because it's too much trouble to make it work and look for the right motor to re-power.

Thank you in advance for your input!

I did the same thing. I decided to buy the bracket and then ended up drilling a hole in my boat to further modifiy my boat so that I could use that motor. (ripped my heart out) re-sell motor would be my advice, and get the motor that is required to to fit.

Re: Honda 75 XL shaft vs 115 L shaft

I had a 17' Crestliner-brown Fiberglass. What a well built boat. I did have trouble with the built in fuel tank and I traded it in. I had an 85 HP that was around 1980 and the boat was a 40 MPH boat maybe more to the wall. Why not look into the propeller you have? I know the whole control turnover is expensive but these Hondas weigh a lot-all on the stern. Check that out.
