I was given an older Honda 7.5 long shaft motor, model/serial # DF75L-1701898. The previous owner said the engine is difficult to start, runs great once started except at idle. Two questions: Does anyone have any idea how old the motor is and any ideas on what I might do to correct the above problem. Since the motor was free, I am willing to spend a little to get it running again. Thanks for any info.

Re: Honda 7.5

To Senior Chief Petty Officer and the Commander, I only made LCdr. in the reserve, so I am junior to both of you. I defer to the Senior Chief in seniority because my Chief Petty Officer in the ordnance shop kept me out of a lot of trouble, and earned an "E" on the Kitty Hawk on my last cruise. I have one other question. Do either of you know where I can get the flush kit fitting that fits over the exhalust on the 1985 Honda DF75L. I could just stick the motor in a barrel of water, but but being the Type A, anal retentive personality that I am, I would prefer the more professional set up of a flush kit. Works great on my 6hp merc. on my sailboat. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, to both of you, I bought the carb kit and am ready to go as soon as I come up with a way to run the engine. Thanks again.

I bought the fitting that my local Honda dealer said fit the engine. It is a threaded adapter with a female hose adapter on the other end. It does not fit. There is no place to screw the fitting into the motor. There is a small triangular exhaust extrusion underneath the cavitation plate. The front side of this extrusion is a screened water intake hole. Apparently, there is a fitting that covers the exhaust and allows intake water from a hose to flow to the engine. I don't know if the newer Honda engines have this feature or not. If they do, there should be an adapter available.

JUSTINTIME,
Thanks for the info. I found the water mouth kit on a link from catalinaowners.com. The cost was only $12.99 plus a couple of bucks for shipping. I probably couldn't have found a plastic garbage can for much less than that. Now I can get on with rebuilding the carb.
