Well, sailor Dad brought over his poorly idleing Honda 7.5(BF75L, Year unknown) and said fix it.

I usually mess with small block V8s and not 7.5 horses connected to a prop, but I started playing with it. I took the carb off and immediately found the problem...dirt in the idle jet.

But now that I've got it semi disassembled, I'd like to tune it up for the old man. I put in 2 new plugs and bought a new impeller...

Problem is, I don't know where the heck the impeller goes????? I'd also like to change the oil and drive oil. Is there an oil filter? If so where does Honda hide that? What kind and how much drive oil is needed? Anything else I should do?

Thanks in Advance,

Mark

Re: Honda 7.5 - General Help Needed

Hi Mark
The first time I worked on one of these motors I didn't have a manual. What a mess I had oil all over the place. So I went to the Honda power equipment dealer and ordered one up. If you will do the same it will save you a lot of head aches.

As for the water impeller, the water pump is located above the gearcase my suggestion would be to get a manual otherwise post a fax number and I could send the pages from mine.

Re: Honda 7.5 - General Help Needed

Here is a link to a diagram of the impeller assembly its right above the foot. Must take foot off to get to it. Impeller housing pics

Disconect shift linkage where the shift lever and shift rod meet. Take off all bolts holding foot on. remove upper Rod #9 and unscrew impeller housing. Take impeller off and make sure that the shaft key doesn't fall out. Replace with new and reassemble. Now that seems to easy and for me it wasn't because I couldn't figure out how the shift rod comes apart because it will not slide out all the way. So I had to do all this with it parially stuck out. Don't yank on the main shaft to hard because it will pull out of the foot and then thats a whole nother problem though not to hard. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. :D

Let me know if you still need the info, if you do what trollhole says and look at the pics listed you should have no problem. One added thing from the manual is to remove the top of the shift rod, count the number of turns need to unscrew and replace with the same number of turns.

I knew there had to be a way to get that shift rod off and now I know. I think I had tried that though aand it was frozen. :D
