Latest aquisition is a Honda 5hp long shaft 4 stroke. Engine start great first time, first pull every time. Engine runs great, never stumbles or coughs. But if the engine is shutdown it will be over an hour before it can be restarted. Took to Honda dealer for complete service and all seemed to be okay. There is good cooling water flow, doesn't seem to be a heat problem.

Any ideas or insights would be very much appreciated.

Something is missing. It needs compression, spark and fuel to run. Which one is missing?

Does it have spark when this happens?

If so, it is a fuel issue.

Spark is fine. Fuel is available. Possibly vapor lock of some sort blocking movement. Pull the line at the carborator and fuel there in abundance. Has vapor lock been a problem with these engines? If so, how to overcome this situation?

A tight valve comes automatically to mind.Valve clearance check should be part of your annual maintenance.

Problem seems to have been the oil level sensor was failing and when hot would registar low oil and not allow the engine to start. When cooled down the sensor read correct oil levels and allows the engine to start. Replacement seems to have solved this problem.
