My 2001 Honda 5HP outboard seems to break sheer pins for no apparent reason. I try to shift only at idle rpm. Using stainless steel sheer pins was suggested to me, but I don't know where to get these. What are the likely causes and solutions?
The most likely cause is that the engine idle is set to high. When you shift into gear the pins can not take the tranmitted force. Or it could be the wrong pins.
