I've got a 2008 Honda 50. Was wondering what gaskets to use on the drain/fill plugs that hold the lower unit gear oil. The Honda Marine dealer I bought the motor from said to always replaced them when one changes the lower unit oil. I went to a Honda Marine dealer that was closer to me in order to buy some. He said he never replaced them and did not have any in stock. I understand there two types of gaskets: one type is a rubber o-ring and the other is a nylon type washer. Does any one know whether the Honda OEM part is a nylon washer or a rubber gasket. Also, any recommendation on which one to use? Thanks

My motor is a 1999 and still has the original red "fiber" type washer/gaskets on the drain/fill plugs. They still look new so I keep using them but I do have a pair of new ones to put on when the old ones look warn. A lot of folks recommend new gaskets every year just to be safe. Good Luck!

go to boats.net and get them there and you can look up your own parts.

I just buy the nylon washers they sell at lowes (usually in the bins in the hardware section). I use them for gaskets on all kinds of bolts/plugs and have not had one leak yet. Just take your plug with you and match it up. You usually get 4 for less than $2.
