I have twin Honda 50s, 1995. The starboard engine will not turn over, no clicking or other indicator that electricity is at the engine. My volt meter says there is power at the starter. I switched all the wiring at the controls as well as the ignition modules. Also swapped the starter, stator, coils and what I think is the solonoid. Still no power on the starboard. Port engine runs and starts with no poblem. New batteries, clean terminals. Suggestions?

Pull out the spark plugs and ,remove the timing belt cover, and try,in a counterclockwise rotation , to spin this thing over a little by hand.Let us know how it goes.

Re: Honda 50 elec. problem

I'll try that. I just got in from another try at it and had all the wires off at the starter and solonoid. Put one wire back wrong and when I hit the ignition on the good engine, both starters engaged. Plenty of power is being delivered. I'm thinking its in the ignition/control box. Even tho I changed as many wires as I could, port to starboard, there are a couple of modules (neutral finder switch) in the control box that could be my problem. What does anyone know about the controls, other than they seem overly complex. thanks, I appreciate all input. Rich

That nuetral safety switch should be back on the engine and deserves diagnosing for your particular complaint.

Where is the neutral safety switch? Also is there anything in the control that would prevent the engine from starting. There is power to the starboard engine and the port engine is wired thru stb. engine. I did try spinning the flywheel, nothing came of it. thanks. Rich

Re: Honda 50 elec. problem

Forward side of the motor. It is a two wire switch that is mounted solid in a bracket. It rides on a cam off the shift cable.
There is a two pole connector between it and the starter selenoid. Test at that point, switch pushed (Shift lever in "F" or "R") continuity.
Switch released (Shift lever in "N") no continuity.

I suspect that adjustment is common since I had to adjust mine soon after I bought it. It would intermittently not allow starter engagement.

The adjustment is at the shift cable cam that the switch rides on. Operate the shift lever and watch where the cam is in relation to position. Adjust the cable position to place the cam in proper position.

Hey rich keep us informed.

Honda Marine Shop Manuel, part # 61ZV300 and supplement # 61ZV300Y , $35-40 bucks. ;)
