Honda 40 RPM problem

I have a 2000 Honda 40 fourstroke on a 20 foot pontoon. I am running around 3100 rpm at WOT. The prop appears to be a 13 pitch that was modified to 11 (the 13 on the number is marked out and 11 is scratched in). I have put new gas in and changed the primer bulb and spark plugs. Manual says WOT should be 5000 to 6000. I ordered a new four blade 8 pitch prop that should come in next week. This was recommended by the Michigan Wheel prop site.

The engine idles fine, but until it gets warm gunning it will kill the motor. There is also a dead spot in the throttle around 2000 rpms, any suggestions.

I was thinking maybe there is an air leak at the gas tank connection?

Re: Honda 40 RPM problem

your running 3100 rpm because your prop is over pitched but it sounds like you already figured that one out and as for the other problem maybe try checking the gapping on your plugs. If you had an air leak it would happen all the time not just when you were running it cold.
