Honda 2hp BF2D oil leak

I have a 2 hp Honda that was stored upright over the winter. I laid it on its side throttle up as recommended and crankcase oil started leaking from the carburator apparently and some out of the air intake plastic thing. The spark plug was also oily. After draining the carburator and cleaning things up, the engine started and ran normally but it still leaks oil when laid on its side. How is oil getting into the carburator area? I can't transport the engine on its side without causing an oil slick when I put the boat in the water as the oil drips down the shaft and gets all over everything. This engine is about three or four years old and has probably less than twenty hours on it.

The most common oil leak cause with this engine is overfilling.Oil level should be half way up the sightglass with the engine level and at rest for several minutes or better ,not yet run at all.The threads on the filler cap can get striped if you are'nt carefull about things feeing right going back on.Once oil gets down onto those air passages it is hard to get rid of even after the leak or spill is found.

I thought about overfill but it was the same oil that was in it last year and it did't leak then. I thought maybe some seal had failed after sitting for a year in below zero winter weather. The oil appeared to be in the middle of the vial. I am just going to keep running the engine for a while and see if it stops

I seem to have a similar problem. No overfill either. I wasn't quite sure where it was coming from. It is such a small amount of oil that I wasn't to concerned. Oil level did not seem to be dropping at all. And it still runs great.

i have a new Honda 2 hp and has leaked since I bought it. I took it to a dealer after the oil fouled the carb and had to pay to have it cleaned. They said it was shiped to me with oil - it had not been and continued to leak oil. I brought it back and they took it apart and resealed it under warrenty. It does appear to be leaking less. I see a little oil near the air vents but so far (two days) it has not pooled on the cavitation plate or the ground. WE will see.<br /><br />Ted

I have the same trouble with mine. Dealer said I over filled it with oil even though I didn't change anything since new. It doesn't say much for the environment awards that it claims to have, if it's dripping oil in to the water!<br />Rgds<br />Fran
