Honda 25hp

I recently purchased a 2000 25hp outboard, console steering controlled.

On the weekend I was cleaning it and noticed a broken wire near the lower unit not far from the upper gear oil screw. It's a bare wire that looks like a stranded winch cable - maybe 1/16" thick.

It looks like a ground between the lower and upper units? Does it have to do with salt water protection?

Does anyone know what this is and how important it would be to repair before the next trip?

Thanks.

That wire maintains continuity between the midsection and the clamp bracket. It can be very important in salt .The fact is that no water is without some galvanic corrosive abilities, unless it is entirely pure.Where would that water be?So I guess what I'm saying ,is that little stranded wire is more important than it looks.

Sorry, do'nt panic .That wire will not make the engine quit and your vacation is fine with it just dangleing there.I would get it taken care of more sooner than later though.
