Re: Honda 225 driveshaft bushing change
This is the most ill-designed part on the entire engine, IMO, or at least the C shaped housing this thing sits in is! It is also water lubricated from the vertical water tube. (so if you get into some shallow sandy water, this water is also sprayed onto the bearing area!) Harbor Freight has a 5 piece slide hammer bearing puller set that will work. ($45.00). Or maybe Advance Auto has a set they'll rent. To get it out, soak it with PB Blaster, remove the snap ring ( appropriate snap-ring pliers req'd) and retaining washer. Use slide hammer to remove Bronze(?) bearing and rubber bushing assy. You'll probably have some corrosion and salt deposits in the housing area to clean. Use some rubber lubricant like liquid soap to install new bearing. Try to find a large drift to drive the new one in. Install washer and snap ring. You can grease the inside of the bearing where the shaft contacts.
