Purchased moter new. Presently less than 20 hrs. Checked moter at home with ears on and every thing apeared OK prior to going out. (good discharge)
Went out on lake and discharge was strong at start up. After about two hours of running at 1/3 to 1/2 throtle I noticed the discharge from the p-port was very week. There was no diffrence in pressure when rpm was increased. (Returned home.) Checked discharge port and as much of tube as I could with a small spray can tube. Still no increase in pressure with ears on.

There is no indication of overheating. (Have ordered a new Impeller kit.)

Any ideas as to what else may cause this. Any help is most welcome.

Be really carefull with those muffs. That gearcase is very slender and most muffs need to be bent to tighten them up.Personally I tape them on there with duct tape.If you are certain that this engine is not getting hot ,when you install the new kit blow some compressed air back up that water tube and you should feel a substantial air flow from that tell tale output.Do'nt put your hand up there because if it is restricted that little item will come shooting out like a bullet[Do'nt ask me how I know that].Since you have already ordered the kit at least pull the gearcase down and inspect.

I have only one similar experience with a Merc. Put in a new water pump and had the same restricted tell tale flow - ended up we found crud/mud restricting the tell tale hose. If not already done, I would also make sure that the black tell tale hose did not get pinched or developed a kink down where it exits the plastic cowling - the cowling can be removed to get a better look.

I also have a new honda 20. My first choice would be to take it back to the shop where I bought it. I trust their qualified mechanic and the warranty to take care of it and point out any potential problem. Although I have replaced a couple of impellers on my older motor and love to tinker, this one is still under warranty. Besides, my mechanic suggested a 20 hr. service so he can drain the oil, look for metal shavings, etc. After that he shouldn't see me for a while.

Thanks Guys,
Hondon, I do have the mufs on tight, although not taped and will take your advice to blow back the tube, when I install the new pump kit. Nearest Honda marine dealer is 400+ miles, so I rely on you folks when I get in a bind.
Thanks to all,
