I bought a boat with a 15HP Honda 4-stoke on and I think from memory its year is '91. Its a superb runner and goes first pull everytime. The engine has electric start but the wiring has been yanked about and chopped and changed by the last owner who by looking at the other wiring on the boat knew nothing. I havent tried to re-connect it up as I dont want to end up blowing something like the CDI unit whilst trying to get it on electric. I am assuming to electric start it is easy. Just connect heavy wires to battery and put ignition switch on wire to solenoid. Cant see it being much mroe complicated than that. Bu to be sure I thought I would ask. My main concern however is charging. I know the engine is capable or charging 12V at 6Amps. But the wiring of it does not appear obvious. on the dash of my boat what would appear to be an ignition warning light is present although not wired to anything. Can anyone shed any light on how to set it up to charge please. And does the charging ciruit need a light on it, like with a alternator to excite it or not? any help appreciated thanks. Ideally a wiring diagram or schematic would be best or just someone who knows or owns one to tell me would be great.

Find the serial number of your outboard, then click on the following link: Honda BF15 Owner's Manuals. Find the one corresponding to your serial number, then download it; the owner's manuals have schematics which may help you. Good luck.
