Honda 135 troubles

I recently purchased a 2005 135hp honda. At around 3800 to 4500 rpm it develops a surge, kind of like the throttle lever is being moved back and forth very slightly. It has done it since it was new, (only 18 hours on engine currently) and the dealer cannot find the problem and is now saying this is normal for honda's. Any suggestions?

Could be a couple of things 1) fuel starvation or 2) something amiss in the ECM
Next time you're out, check that the fuel primer bulb isn't going flat. Could be that the antisiphon valve is sticking (valve is at the tank). When the motor begins to bog, pump the bulb to see if the rpm's go back up.
If that's not your problem, then have another mechanic check to codes from the ECM.
I'm not a machanic, just an owner.

I suggest you find another Honda tech, there is a bulletin regarding this issue where the knock sensor and wiring harness need to be replaced. The current knock sensor is retarding the ignition timing at a certain engine speed causing a temporary drop off in rpm. This fix will be done at Honda's expence
